What about those of you in more remote locations? Or what if you have a job that takes you out of town for weeks at a time? It must be frustrating to want to speak to someone when you might not have anyone trained in your location (or you have high school stories about them.)
I can help with that! Luckily, I now offer online video counselling.
Basically, if you can’t come to the office, for whatever reason (like you work out of town on shift or are in a remote location with few services), I will send you an invite to a secure video conferencing site. You’ll login and, once we’re both online, we start the session. Simple.
You need a secure location (with privacy where no one is able to overhear), a computer with video and audio capabilities, and the invite, and that’s it!
It is different than face-to-face sessions. For example, if I’m looking away, remember I’m taking notes, not ignoring you! There’s a different consent to fill out and some extra confidentiality considerations, BUT the results can be just as effective as face to face. To sum up, telehealth (online video conferencing in this case) can be a great alternative if you don’t have access otherwise. It works for many different issues, AND you can stay in your jammies! Score!
Note: Online counselling is NOT for you if you are experiencing an emergency and are suicidal. If this is the case, go to your nearest emergency centre or call 780-482-4357 (the Crisis Support Centre).
