Try Qigong This Winter, and Meet Bob, Our Qigong Instructor

The New Year is a great time to start new habits, or try a new practice. We thought this would be a great time to introduce Bob to all of you. Bob comes into our office to lead qigong sessions on Monday evenings. If you haven’t heard of qigong before, it’s “an ancient Chinese healing practice that combines controlled breathing, gentle movement, and meditation to promote good mental, physical, and spiritual health.” Here’s a little more about Bob and his experience with qigong!

Meet Bob, Our Qigong Instructor

Hello! I’m Bob, and I’ve always been interested in the martial arts, alternative medicine, eastern philosophy, and the benefits of practices like meditation and yoga. Albert Einstein’s notion that we are more than just our bodies—that we are made of pure energy—has been an idea that connects with me and my view of the world.

In 2012, I lost my wife, Donna. This event brought me to question life. I started asking who I was and what I wanted in life, and I felt stuck. I experienced so many emotions, feeling broken, lost, confused, stagnant and heartbroken.

Along with the conventional modes of therapy (such as bereavement classes), I also joined numerous meet-up classes. The classes I was most drawn to were mainly alternative approaches to health and wellness, breathwork, energy work, yoga, reiki and qigong.

I was immediately drawn to qigong. It aligned with what I had read and learned about—that we are energy and that stuck energy is the cause of most health problems, including physical, mental and emotional issues. Qigong teaches us how to move energy and keep it flowing to improve the health of mind, body and emotions.

I have found, by practising qigong, that I am more content and accept life’s events and changes more easily. I feel better physically, but more importantly, at least for me, is a sense of peace. It is a feeling of relaxation, flow and acceptance, and I do not feel stagnant in my life anymore. I feel a calmness and quietness in my body and mind after doing Qigong and I hope everyone who tries it can also feel this shift within them.

"Qigong teaches us how to move energy and keep it flowing to improve the health of mind, body and emotions."

We’re so happy to have Bob in our office to offer these classes! Maybe you’d like to try qigong? Join Kim and Bob on Monday evenings at 6pm on our Instagram live for a free session!
